"The vehicles in this category that are missing from our 2014 Annual Physical are the 3.7-liter V-6 Ford F-150, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost Ford F-150, the 3.6-liter Pentastar Ram 1500 and the 4.0-liter regular cab 4x2 Toyota Tundra. We were told by each truckmaker that they could not get a truck to us in time for our event."

  • Quite a disparate group of trucks, which would have been even moreso if they had managed to include an Ecoboost in the test.

That said, nice to see the Ram diesel's fuel mileage is holding its own -- that was the most interesting aspect of this test to me.
  • I like the 4.3 liter, LS V6 version engine in the GM. I have a strong interest in hot rodding and the modern engine that seems to appeal to many hot rodders is the LS V8.

Having got that out of the way. Acceleration is all about power to weight ratio, gearing, traction.

Good test. A lot of close completion in the test.

Probably comes down to personal preference, individual comfort.

I like the looks and the ZF 8 speed transmission (all those ratios) of the Dodge, the engine in the GM's....comfort...I'd have to try them.
  • The thing they tested was the full blown Ram 1500 diesel. That is a pimped out truck, and not what I consider a "Man's Truck". Even the Outdoorsman that I want is a little too pimped out for my liking, but will do...and has way more payload than the one tested.

Seems that even ram isn't sure which axle is under the 1500 they supplied for the test. Monroney says 3.55, the axle tag says 3.92
hope they get that figured out.
  • Seems kinda pointless to have even run the test without the F150.

You think Motor Trend or Car and Driver would get their hands on an F150 for a similar test? Geez - rent an F150 from Enterprise.
