2015 Cummins service question.

So what is the six month mileage?

Service is every 7500 miles or six months. So now I'm at the 1500 mile/12 month service with 9000 miles on the truck.

Buy your oil filters at a Cummins repair facility and your oil at Sams or Costco. You'll be ahead in the long run. Cummins also carries air and fuel filters also. At least my local Cummins Bridgeway does. I even bought my CCV filter there.

When I change my oil it shows 15,000 interval!!

I change my oil every 6 months for $75 or less. I use Rotella T6 (5W40) from November to April and switch to Rotella T5 (15W40) for the warm months. Since you're in NC, you can probably safely go 15W40 all year and just change the oil every 6 months. I can do T5 plus a filter for $60.

Fuel filters, so far as I've found, are only available as OEM. On my last fuel filter change I bought a Packaged set on Amazon for about $100. These took less than 30 minutes to replace.

So, to change fuel filters and oil every 6 months it costs about $160. That's a pretty far departure from the $300+ the dealership quoted you for one service.

Oh....and as far as I know, fuel filters are mileage based only. Just watch your indicator in your dash and change them when it tells you.

The dealer is quoting approx $300 for both fuel filters, and a rotate. No charge on the oil change. They did the first one at 6 months completely free so I'm already in the green.

So another words. Keeping it simple and just talking annual fuel and oil changes, I'll spend around $300 a year for two oil changes, two rotates and fuel filters. Approx. $150-ish more than you doing it yourself.

my neighbor with a Nissan rogue had a call from the dealer telling him he needed to get the car in for the oil change or lose the warranty. He had really not even driven the car since the last oil change.

How many hours is on the truck with 9,000 miles? That 6 months thing is to take into account the trucks that idle a lot or run slow back roads a lot. It's not because the oil goes out of date in six months.

I personally change mine once a year or 10,000 miles. I change my fuel filters every time. I also get my fuel filter that is mounted on the rear of the truck at NAPA. The engine filter has still not been released to the aftermarket world.

When I had a Cummins I installed a Fumoto valve in place of the drain plug. I used an old plastic 6 gal outboard fuel tank to drain the oil into. It fits perfectly. Never spilled a drop and easy to dump out. For the filter cut the top off a 2 liter pop bottle and use it as a sleeve over the filter to catch any spillage. Got my filters from a Cummins dealer at a fair price or from Genos Garage online. Takes about 15 minutes to do the job plus whatever you grease. Half the price of a dealer.

RAM oil change is 6 months or 15K which ever occurs first. What a waste of oil for a low mileage user. Maybe the guy that came up with that came from a quick lube store.
