So for a 4x4, not much of a mileage reason to go to the 2.7L EcoB or the NA V6.

Prolly weight. 4x4 weighs a lot more. And then IF the front axles are always engaged. It has to turn them as well. After a while you will notice that not only do 2WD trucks get better MPG, but they tow more as well. Mostly because of weight.
