Stopped by the ford dealer today they had 3 2015 F-150s in stock 2 3.5 ecoboost and a 5.0 all xlt trim. I was suprised the payload of the 3.5's was 1920 lbs. 1920 for a standard payload truck they did...

According to the 2015 catalog, 2650# is the *maximum* payload for a truck in his configuration with the HD Payload option and 18" wheels. This is what they call a "heavy-half".:)
A Lariat's payload will be significantly lower than this catalogue maximum. But his XLT might well come close, depends upon the options. Even my 2011 FX2 came with a yellow-sticker payload within 30# of the catalogue maximum.
I don't think the F250 line will disappear. Apparently they are testing Al bodies for them as we speak. So I expect you will see payloads increase there as well, and perhaps an EcoBoost engine?
It's just that the "half-ton" and "three-quarter-ton" and "one-ton" labels are getting way out of touch with reality.
