Why is the GVWR not equal to the combination of the FAWR plus the RAWR? The GMC 2500 has RAWR of 6200 and FAWR of 5200. Added together that is 11400, but the same sticker also specifies GVWR as 10000, not 11400 as one would think. What happened to the missing 1400?
Thats the marketing game at its best.
Actually out here in the real world the truck makers GVWR isn't used in any legal sense for figuring how much payload the truck can carry legally/safely.
In the case of a truck pulling a trailer just about all the hitch load sits on the trucks rear axle/tires. In many cases a trailers hitch load may unload the trucks front axles.
And its not just a 3/4 ton truck that plays the 10k game.
Example is the F350 SRW crew cab 4x4 172.4"wheel base 6.7 diesel same RAWR/FAWR/tires and wheels with a 10k or 11.2k GVWR.
Keep in mind the truck maker may choose any GVWR he wants but cannot go over the sum of the trucks GAWRs.
