My only thought on that, is that a medium duty truck towing the same load would have about the same horsepower. Most medium duty trucks are equipped with an ISL motor (or the same class of motor) which tops out at around 380 HP in commercial duty. You won't see more horsepower until you start looking at Class 7/8 trucks. So you will have even slower towing performance speed/acceleration wise with a medium duty truck (but a more competent chassis to handle the load for braking and handling).
