Great thread...thanks to all that have posted thier experiences. I am looking to make the jump from a '02 2500 to a new or close to new 3500. DW and I are approaching the opportunity to travel much more. My 5er, a Pinnacle 38FLSA, is too much for the 2500. I've pulled a couple short trips and one at around 500 miles, and it's doable but not a good idea going forward.
I think the 4x4 8 ft box crew cab option is what I'm looking for. Trailer weight is around 16K empty, but truck and trailer loaded for a 3 month trip will probably be in the 20K neighborhood. What rear axle gear ratio is everybody running? I really don't want 4:10s, due to fuel milage running empty. I'm thinking 3:73s might be the best middle ground. What do you think? I'm probably a year away from making the sway. My old '02 has 300k and still going strong...just not strong enough...
