Don't ask Ford. Ask government.
It is all about registration fees and inspection requirements.
As I said, I had my F450 loaded above 20,000lb GVW just fine. Tires gave me over 22,000lb capacity.
But the truck was rated for 15k gross as that is where you don't go into commercial registration fees.
In some jurisdictions 13,600 lb seems to be the magic number and lot of truck are rated for it.
Nothing to do with frame and suspension strenght
