There is also the factor of the fuel economy bump will pay for it in X amount of miles depending on fuel cost and how much you gain. I gained a solid 2.5 mpg (I have 80k miles worth of fuel records to prove it) over stock going from 14.5 mpg to 17 mpg average. Doing the math, the fuel economy gain will save $1000 in 39,500 miles with diesel being at $2.50 per gallon. Seeing that I drive 27,000 miles a year, I will recoup that in a year and a half. If fuel is $2.75 per gallon then I will recoup that $1,000 in 36,000 miles. If fuel gets to $3.00 per gallon then it will be recouped in 34,000 miles.
