In a pinch, I've used silicone window caulking or manhole mastic in similar applications.
And I've heard the "Right stuff" gasket maker works awesome.
But that was't the question and reusable rubber gaskets are a nice departure from smearing gasket goo on surfaces. - FishermanExplorer
