2017 F-350 DRW Thoughts

I just test drove a new 2017 F-350 DRW 4x4. I was amazed at the unloaded comfort of the truck over my current 2011 Ram 3500 4x4. But I'm curious how this truck is going to handle a 1172 and what modifications I'll need to make to the truck if any. If anyone has one of these new trucks and has experience hauling a 11ft camper I'd love to hear how it's doing for you.

Thanks
  • Lance campers had a 1172 on a new F350 DRW at the RIVA show in Louisville. I asked the Lance guy how it rides on the truck. He said the truck could use air bags but no one makes them yet.
Of course this is also the same guy who told me I could carry the Lance 975 on my 20 year old 3/4 ton truck.
  • on my 2011 F350 if I wasn't going to tow my horse trailer which weighs in at 7000 loaded I think the only thing above stock suspension would be a set of lower stableloads to keep the rear end level. no airbags ( I run mine empty when not towing) don't think I would need the upper stable loads either. my 10'11" Lance 1055 weighs over 4500.

I can't image the 2017 would need much of anything (just the stock anti-sway bars)
  • Cartmancartman....How much sag do you think you have right now? If you have pics I would love to see. Have you been up any mountains in your truck/camper setup yet? I have a tuner on my engine and it flies up mountains and with the suspension work I've had done its solid as a rock...truck is just crazy rough without the camper on it:).

Stufarmer...I'm not really interested in the various features of the 2017 Fords as I am the ride and power stock. The one thing I do like is that Ford is doing carpet deletes now and the high mounted camper camera I can see as being a huge benefit for hooking up. How does your '16 carry your camper and did you have to do anything to suspension?

Seriously no one has made the leap to a 2017 F-350?

I had a choice of either, 16' or 17'. I chose the last of the tried and true 16' F350 4x4 Diesel Dually W/Lariat Ultimate pkg. My nephew chose a 17' F350 4x4 Diesel, Short bed SRW Platinum. The 17's LED Lighting, 7way Camera and the Adaptive Cruise control are nice features, But, my 16' is a hell of a truck.
  • Buy a Ram, I purchased a new 16 ram 3500 for my 17 1172 purchase, without the factory air bag option. I am happy with the purchase, it handles well stock with the camper on, going down the freeway at 70ish or so. Yes, it does wobble a bit at slow speeds and sage a bit in the back but I purchased some wedges for that, we will see how it goes. But I love the new Ram setup, I own 2 of them.

You should jump on the Lance Forum, lots of good info on campers there. It seems Rams seem to be the popular choice as well.
  • Torklift does make all required parts for this truck already...tirdowns, hitches, stableloads! Saw one at the Denver RV show and it was beautiful! I'm thinking I'd start with stableloads and go from there...based off the test Ford did several months back using a 5k simulated camper I'd think very little would be required, but I'd prefer hearing from someone with real experience!
  • I'm sure it will handle the truck just fine. I don't know if anyone has picked one up yet. Someone has to be first. :) First thought ... does Torklift make mounts for the tiedowns!
