Try towing a combined load of 33K at 75mph with some head/side winds! This pic was no head winds @ 7mpg, you can see the boost was low.
Now at 13 feet 5 inches it won't be better. I guess you know that but fun telling you. That mor/ryde sure looks strong

The front of the RV is still the same height since the hitch and inbox are still the same. The handling seems the same with it level now compared to WAY low in the back.
MORryde is really a solid quality system. - SoCalDesertRid1Explorer II

If you lower your road speed, you can get the same or better mileage with lower ratio (higher number) gears, particularly when loaded/towing very heavy in mountainous terrain.
It's got nothing to do with tuning. All the pickups are tuned the same. 3.31's are more shallow gears and by nature will get better mileage than 3.55's. Step up to a DRW 350 or a 450 with 4.30's and you'll get worse mileage yet. It's the nature of gearing. The steeper the gearset, the more torque multiplication you get to the ground at the cost of fuel consumption.
Low ratio (high number) gears make for worse mileage, only because they increase engine rpms, for any given road speed. Lower the road speed until the engine is spinning the same rpms, and you get the same or better mileage, since the engine is working less with the lower ratio gears. - larry_barnhartExplorer

What puzzles me about Ford since they dropped the 7.3L International engine is this:
They have had continual engine issues with their diesels and continue to change/tweak them constantly. Some years it must be said have a very bad reputation (warranted or not)
So why on earth havn't they made a deal with CAT to produce a really good engine similar to the Cummins for light duty trucks?
That CAT badge on the fender would not only look good but hark to a solid reputation for near perfect dependability.
I like Fords and even though I have a Dodge...it was because of the Cummins engine. If Ford had had a similar CAT I would possibly have bought that...or at least given it consideration.
This seems like a no-brainer marketing decision to me.
PS: And when Mack decides to make a pickup...well the big three will all be in big trouble.
I think Ford has got the pickup truck powertrain figured out. If given an opportunity to buy a new Ford with either the Cummins or Powerstroke engine I think I would choose the Powerstroke. Although if the Cummins proved to be better on fuel than the Powerstroke I might be swayed the other way.
The Cummins does get better mileage from my experience as well as pretty much all testing I've read.
It seems to me as though Ford must tune their trucks with the 3:31 diffs differently. My over all average fuel economy, after 6000 miles, with 3:55 gears is only about 12.4 mpg. About the best I see driving mostly highway with no trailer is 17-18 miles per US gallon. I know people with the 3:31 gears claim significantly better numbers. I think the Ram gets about the same as the 3:31 Ford. - Greene728Explorer

2016 F150 XLT crew cab 4x4, 6-1/2' bed
3.5 Ecoboost, 3.73 e-locker, HD payload pkg, max tow pkg
2016 F350 SRW XLT crew cab 4x4, 8' bed (172" wb)
6.2 gas, 4.30 e-locker, hd payload pkg, gooseneck tow pkg
2016 F350 SRW XLT crew cab 4x4 cab/chassis, 176" wb
6.2 gas, 4.30 e-locker, hd payload pkg
2016 F350 DRW XLT crew cab 4x4 cab/chassis, 176" wb
6.2 gas, 4.30 ltd slip, hd payload pkg
2016 F550 DRW XLT crew cab 4x4 cab/chassis, 176" wb
V10 gas, 4.88 ltd slip, max payload pkg
The F150 and all 3 of the F350's came out within $2000 of eachother with all the same as close to same options chosen. The F550 came out $8-10,000 more than the other trucks.
For what they want for an F150, I'd much rather have the F350 for about the same price! - SoCalDesertRid1Explorer III don't know about for 2017, but for 2016, they're still offering the V10 gas engine and 5 speed auto trans in the commercial cab/chassis F350/450/550 trucks.
They're also still offering the Econoline E150/250/350 cargo vans and passenger wagons and E350/450 cutaway chassis for 2016 model year. Not sure about 2017.
