2017 ford F150

Will a 2017 Ford F150 V8 with all the towing goodies handle my cougar XLite 5th wheel. Dry WT 6964, GVWR 9990, Hitch WT 1190. Will this truck with 4 wheel drive and 6.5 bed work? Thanks
  • Ford markets about 5 different GVWR/RAWR packages. The first three would be overloaded with a 8k-9k trailer.
Simply depends on the trucks GVWR/RAWR/engine size/gear ratio package.
    Need more op input.
  • 200 pound receiver, estimated 1500 pounds of loaded pin weight. What does your tire and loading sticker say for max combined weight of occupants and cargo? Likely, you need to stick to bumper pull RVs and near 6k dry.

Then it is even worse than the picture that I painted. He may be into F350 territory. But the principles apply. I didn't assume a 5er because their website shows both a tt and 5er under that name.

  • I have a new F150 3.5l Ecoboost with a payload of 1900#. With a payload of 1900#, a hitch weight of 1200# leaves you 700#. Me and the missus weigh 400 pounds, leaving 300#. A 100# WD hitch leaves 200#. If yours is a 5er, the hitch weighs even more. A 36 gallon fuel tank on the truck carries 216# of gasoline.

You are over weight and have loaded nothing in the truck for camping.

    You are in F250 territory.

That is why I bought a trailer with a GVWR of 6000#, which carries a tongue weight of about 700# to 900#.

As far as your tongue weight, with a 9990# GVWR, you are actually looking at 12% to 15% of that weight on the tongue, or 1200# to 1500#.
  • It depends on your available payload, and RAWR/tire max rating. If you look on your driver door panel, a tire loading sticker will say weight not to exceed xxxx lbs, including all passengers gear, plus loaded hitch wt of FW, and hitch. I'm thinking pin wt of that FW loaded to camp, will be 16 to 18 hundred lbs.

I think your truck can tow the weight, but may not be able to carry the total payload. Not enough info given, to give accurate advice.
