Ever squeeze an aluminum beer can. They have to stiffen up the frame for the body to survive.
As the Ford guy himself said first all new F250+ series in 18 years
Chris - ThreebigfordsExplorerI'm interested to see how the new box frame works as well. Having owned more than a few of the early superduties, I can say that My 15' F450 rides much better than any of them. I too test drove the Ram 3500 DRW HD and thought it was a harsher ride than the F450. Although I also thought a 2016 F350 SRW that I test drove rode worse than the F450.
I understand why Ford made the switch, market pressures almost mandated it. But is it a better platform for hauling heavy?? I'm not so sure, how many 18 wheelers have box frames???
Truth is, you want SOME frame flex to avoid damaging the frame on uneven ground. Traction suffers as well in extreme uneven conditions, sure the Ram frame allows you to open the tailgate, but if your tires are off the ground...can you still move? Worse yet, what happens to that stiff frame in that situation with a 5000lbs load in the bed?? Something has to give.

It still has the CP4 issue in the diesels but other than that it's going to be an awesome truck overall. The chassis upgrade alone is huge. The 2016 and earlier Super Duty's felt incredibly dated from behind the wheel in terms of stiffness and the ride/handling balance because there was so much frame flex. It has amazing power numbers but none of the big diesels could be called deficient in that regard these days.
I actually like the frame flex even though Ford is going to a boxed frame. I test drove both Ram and Ford before my purchase and enjoyed the Ford's ride and handling much more. Also, I'd rather my frame flex than crumple and cause major issues which can't be fixed easily.
As for the CP4 injectors, it's not a major issue like many like to claim. Yes there were failures in the earlier years but lately we're not hearing about those anymore.
I just felt like it drove like my dad's '99-00 vintage Super Duty. Which is a great truck, by all means, but it is a flexy old school pickup. Not really something I wanted to buy in a 2015 model year truck. The new Super Duty should remedy that flaw.
The CP4 issue isn't major unless it happens to you, and yeah they do still happen. There was a duramax owner on here within the last 3-4 months that had it happen to him. It would be nice if Bosch would update their pump to eliminate the issue.
Hmmmmmm... My '12 Super Duty with the coil springs mounted to the large swing arms and the longer and wider rear leaf springs doesn't ride anywhere near the first Super Duty's with the inverted leaf springs on the front suspension. As a matter of fact when I was test driving the '12 ram one of the biggest issues I had was how rough the truck rode compared to the '12 Super Duty.
Ever wonder why ram copied Fords front suspension?
Because it was a better design. And one of the things that initially add me more open to considering a Ram. The newer super duty trucks ride better than the old leaf versions (and turn a lot better), but the platform is a wet noodle by modern truck standards. The new super duty is going to be a huge leap forward and a fantastic truck. Or that's my guess anyway. - spoon059Explorer II

And by the 2nd post the Ram mafia showed up talk **** about Ford. It's amazing you point fingers because you're one of the worst brand bashers on this site. Why are you here to discuss Ford trucks when clearly you favor Ram and will always favor Ram? Are you adding to the discussion and simply trolling?
Okay... we'll take this point by point... Here is the 2nd post;IdaD wrote:

So IdaD points out that Ford still uses the CP4.2 pump that is a known weak spot. Then he says its going to be an "awesome" truck. He compliments the upgraded chassis then gives credit to the amazing power numbers. I guess making a truthful comment about a known troublesome fuel injector that Ford has not stood behind is considered to be "talking trash (more polite word than you used) about Ford"??? Seems to be a stretch.
Second point, I don't "favor" any truck over the other. You might want to take a look through my posts before you hurt yourself jumping to conclusions. I owned and loved a Ford F150. I owned and loved a Toyota Tundra. I currently own and love my Ram. Furthermore, did you even read my post? I am highly complimentary of this new truck and I think that Ford has greatly improved upon the already highest selling truck. Regardless of what truck I own, am I not allowed to read and comment in threads about other trucks? Again, I hope you don't hurt yourself, this time from falling off your high horse.
Final point... did you even read my post? I asked on-topic questions about the new truck, gave praise for what appears to be a great and innovative platform and said I couldn't wait to see them in person.
How is that negative, trolling or "favoring Ram"? I am far from a loyal brand truck owner. These things are pieces of metal that I use to move my camper from one campsite to the next. I have no emotional attachment and buy the best price I can afford in my pricepoint that meets my needs. Who knows, my next truck might very well be a Ford. I guess I should feel ashamed for reading and inquiring about them... Next time I will seriously consider requesting your permission.
By the way, did you ever wonder why very few Ford owners are willing to stand with Fish and his trolling nonsense? All of the accusations that you pointed at me are quite true about your buddy Fishie. Read some of my posts... read some of his posts... see if you don't agree with me.
I'd be willing to bet that you either don't even reply to my post or else you fail to address 99.9% of my points. IdaD wrote:

The problem is not that some CP4 injection pumps failed, the problem in how Ford failed to warranty the failure on many blaming it on the owner and fuel. While GM quietly covered similar failures under warranty with few owners fully aware of what failed.

I guess you don't want to drop a heavy tool box in the truck bed - neat video out on that comparing to Chevy trucks on how easy the aluminum beds floors get holes ripped into them real easy.
I've had Fords for many years... All gasoline however...

That is what Linex is for. Have you seen on you tube where they spray a watermelon, egg and lightbulb with Linex and drop it from a 30 foot building? They just bounce. Should protect a truck box the same way. - IdaDExplorer
