I agree with the OP, the new Fords are quite an amazing truck. And yes, if you need the ultimate tow rig, the F450 with the wide track front axle and 4.30's is the way to go!
I pulled the trigger on a 15' F450 myself last year, only because I preferred the old bodystyle more then the new.
I'm a contractor and have put 32k hard miles on the truck in the last 12 months. It has proven to be the most capable truck I've ever owned. I can only imagine the new 17's will prove to be even better.
Obviously if you were one of those burned by a 6.0 or 6.4 failure, I can understand your reluctance to give Ford another chance. That's your right, and hey SOMEBODY has to buy the Chevy's and Rams's. However, the 6.7 Ford's have proven to be extremely reliable. More complicated? Perhaps. But every bit as reliable as the Cummins nonetheless.
