I am on my 4th ram diesel, have always used the EB on full and TH, religously. I tow about 80%-85% of the time, with a third of that very heavy. I am at 82,000 miles on my 14, still have 50% brakes left. If you ever have been to Branson Mo., you know everything is on a hill or a curve, I live 30 miles west. I tow an enclosed trailer that is loaded 100% of the time, about 6,500 pounds, with the way I drive, sometimes a little quicker than I should, I manage to average 9.5-10 mpg. I wouldn't/will not drive my truck without either engaged, save fuel and brakes, plus keeps the turbo from sooting up.
