Your statement is wrong from the get-go. You won't often find a legitimately seasoned driver in a 1/2 ton truck that's max'd out or over spec. Instead, they'll be the guy in the more appropriately sized truck.
Taking in the fact of different locations and culture,I totally disagree with that statement.Around here they get by with what they have,You ought to see the loads of wood coming off the hill.Almost every load is overloaded and pulling a trailer to boot.
What would you say to 80-90% of the truck camper guys driving around over specs or those very large fifth wheels pulled with a 3/4 ton truck.
If I were only wanting to tow a 9-10,000 pound trailer,I would buy the truck best suited for the family and that task regardless of the label.1/2 trucks are verycapable for that and the women prefer the better ride they give,in most cases.
