i hesitate to weigh (no pun intended) in on this subject as Ralph's popcorn is probably gone by now, but I do have some real life experience with the question. I towed a 6800 lb travel trailer, 900 lb tongue weight (actual scaled weight loaded for camping) for 5 years with a 2013 F-150 with the 3.5 EB. I never had any problems driving it. We traveled much of the eastern US, western MN to Maine in those years. I used the truck for a daily driver putting 164,000 trouble free miles on it in those 5 years. I was approaching a need to replace the truck for employer regulation reasons, and was unsure if I would stay with the F-150 or go F-250. I should note that I was 500 lbs over rear axle rating, so I was leaning toward the F-250. What finally made the decision for me was sliding under the back of the truck to do a semi-annual inspection of hitch welds etc, and found the receiver box splitting out from the front, half way to the back of the box. I have to admit that spooked me. I did make the move to a 2017 F-250. The towing ride is more settled, although I would not state a night and day difference. The 6.2 gas engine pulls almost as well as the 3.5 EB, but does have more engine braking. Daily driving gas mileage so far is just under 15 mpg vs the approx 18 I was getting with the EB. Would I tow a 9000 lb trailer with the old F-150? Probably not. Any way, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
