But there really shouldn't be. Class 4 is class 4. Failed welds were mentioned. They could happen on any vehicle.

I mentioned checking welds, etc, but it actually wasn't a failed weld- the receiver box metal split at the 2 bottom corners, allowing the bottom horizontal portion of the box to bend down.
The max tongue weight for the F-150 was 500 lbs without WD, and 1130 lbs with. The max tongue weight for the F-250 is 1500 lbs either way.

I still believe a class 4 hitch is a class 4 hitch. Period. The hitch you referenced on the F250 sounds like it's probably a class V hitch. On a side note, the class 4 hitch on my Ram 1500 is rated to 1100 lbs tongue weight, with no mention of wd hitch. The bumper hitch is rated to 500 lbs. At any rate, you pointed out a valid concern and potential weak point. I'm definitely not arguing with that. :)
