2018 Jeep Wrangler Unveiled

Jeep finally unveiled the new Wrangler and the diesel variant will definitely be the next vehicle I purchase. Although the new turbocharged 4 cylinder seems interesting.

L.A. Auto Show: 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sports a New Design, Hybrid and Diesel Engines

2018 Powertrains
Turbocharged 2.0L Hybrid I4 - 270 hp / 295 lb-ft
N/A 3.6L V6 - 285 hp / 260 lb-ft
3.0L Ecodiesel (available 2019) - 260 hp / 442 lb-ft

The 8 speed will be available with all engine options. It appears the hybrid system on the 2.0L shuts of the engine as you coast or come to a stop to store braking energy so it can assist you as you take off from a stop. Other than that, it runs off the gas engine. I am hearing from other sites that the diesel may have this hybrid system as well.

I think I would just take the V6. I'm not a fan of the auto shutoff features that seem to be taking over in new vehicles. Rubicon, of course - those things are freaking impressive offroad with two solid axles with swaybar disconnects, a great low range ratio and lockers on both ends.

It is easily turned off. I wouldn't let that feature limit your purchase options.

If you are into "wheeling" the diesel or 6 gas is a better option in my opinion. The turbo did not seem to have enough on the bottom to do slower maneuvers but had great power a little higher.
