So why would a Ford guy care about a Cummins gas engine in a RAM truck I can't imagine he would ever buy?
Because I'm interested how Cummins performs with gasoline and assuming it will be turbo charged. We know the EB burns fuel like crazy when towing and wouldn't handle HD work and it's probably safe to say Stelantis' new 3.0 Turbo gas engine will perform the same which would be unacceptable in a HD application. We also know a hybrid would probably be unacceptable in a HD application as well.
So what's next? Cummins turbo charged gas engine?
Why would a turbo charged 6.7 burn less fuel than a 3.0 or 3.5? I’m pretty sure that is exactly why we haven’t seen Ford do it in a 5.0.
I don’t think that turbo charging gassers is the answer to the needs of a HD engine.
Speculation has the 6.7 gas will have a turbo since Cummins says it will have diesel like performance. Also just looked it up and Cummins will release this engine in 2024 so it will be a while. Probably just in time for the Hemi's demise.
