I disagree. There is nothing sexier than a lady driving a monster truck! Put an NRA sticker on the back and I may even propose.

I'm not a member of the NRA, but I do own a Glock and have a CHL. :-)

Several reasonable recommendations. Based on your statements and goals, weight of existing trailer, daily driver comfort, (and especially if I loved my red Explorer...). I'd head over to Whitesboro and take a drive in this:

I think these have been a best kept secret in towing, since folks so often run out of payload, and don't always want or need the diesel for every application. There's a good discussion on the F-250 Lariat on that "other" RV forum, Towing with the 6.2L truck

I had no idea, these trucks were so well equipped today, I'm basically a Ram 2500 fan, (in the category of most features for the lowest price), but I'm telling you Ford has it going on with this gasser version. It is the answer to all questions "will my 1/2 ton tow this?" without having to get the one ton dually diesel.

Edit: for the budget-conscious, here's a nicely equipped F-250 XLT 6.2L priced a fair amount under an F-150 Lariat 3.5L Ecoboost Supercrew: (Fairfield, TX) Don't misunderstand, I love the Ecoboost engine, but just use the right tool for the job at hand.

I think payload is a somewhat superficial number but for those that need to be by the book, a one ton would be the better option as it will greatly increase the payload number on your door sticker. It's not uncommon for the hitch of a 5th wheel to be 2,000 lbs or greater.

It gets worse, you should get the F350 for the additional payload you need. Keep the Explorer for daily driving and that F350 will last forever.

And heres one with 3.5L ecoboost, HDPP, 3,000 lbs of payload, and a MSRP of under $31,000.00. Other than that, same stripper model as that F250.

Not only that but you get 24 mpg highway as a daily driver.

After pricing some F150 trucks when I saw yours I thought "How did he get it so low?" Then I realized I was pricing super crew cabs with 4X4. Your link is regular cab with 4X2. But it is $31,000.

I would reverse this. The 3/4 ton is the real winner unless you only tow very little, like once or twice a year for a long weekend trip. If you only tow once or twice a year, then the 1/2 ton HDPP is acceptable.

In any of these, get the 3.5l EcoBoost if you can. It is a towing monster and the twin turbos means it loses very little power at altitude.

This is coming from someone who has a 1/2 ton WITHOUT the HDPP, but with the 3.5l Ecoboost. However, my trailer is 1/2 the weight of yours.

What you talking 'bout Willis! All 3.5L Ecoboost engines have twin turbos.

Only the Ford I-4 engines have a single turbo.
