- real4u2cExplorer50 amp service can handle a power consumption Up To 50 amps, an (Example would be ,10awg copper wire, 120volts 1-phase, 30 feet cord, at 50 amps. The voltage drop will be 3.7, volts on load end is 116.3 which is a voltage % drop of 3.1.) My 233s Roo rated consumption is 30 amps,( Example would be : 10awg copper wire, 120volts 1-phase, 30 feet cord, at 30 amps. The voltage drop will be 2.2, volts on load end is 117.8, which is a voltage % drop of 1.8.) I still use my surge protector with A 2' RUGGED built adapter that disperses heat rather well, I purchased online. So far, so good. A safety concern would be the longer the cord , there is more voltage drop. ( quick example, at 30 amps, 10 awg copper, 50' cord, 96.1 volts on load end.) Your a/c will struggle to run properly. Hope this helps.
- fla-gypsyExplorerI prefer using the 50A plug with a dogbone adapter.
- RookiecamperExplorerI would be extremely surprised if there wasn't a 30A receptacle there. Campgrounds usually list the highest amperage a site has, so as mentioned, it probably has the 15, 30 and 50.
- RandK-MExplorerLike Chuck said, most 50amp sites also have a 30amp outlet in the box. And often a standard 15-20amp one also.
Ray - RoyBExplorer III have never had any luck using the short round type connector adapters. I always use the "DOGBONE" long cable style adapters that distributes the connector heat the best for me.
You DO NOT want your 30A SHORE POWER CABLE to end up like this photo..
Roy Ken - mepboatExplorerA few years ago we made the move from full time live aboard boating to RVing. With this we kept several items that are pretty much interchangeable in our great lifestyle. Although we do not live full time in an RV at this time--sold the 5th wheel and bought a park model and a class B motorhome, (pleasureway excel TS 2010) we travel in the PW as often as we can. We carry an electrical hook-up bag with us all time. This bag should include all your possible hookups. We have our 30 amp cord, a 30 amp extension cord from camping world, adapters for 30 to 50 amp service and something that most RVers dont think of till they may need is a converter for 30 amp marine service. THAT plug is completely different. It converts the 30 amp marine to a 110 3 prong and then we use a 3 prong to 30 amp connector for the final mix to the PW. The marine connector is by marinco, barrel type about 4 inches long. Any West marine store has them. The other connectors we purchased at Wal Mart, (cheapest around). This should cover all options as far as we know. B safe, B happy, Go RVing.
- sremsingExplorerYep, get a 50 to 30 dogbone. That's all that's needed.
- Chuck_SExplorerAdapters are available "everywhere."
Must be an antique electrical system at that campground! 50-30-20 amp boxes have been standard for 15-20 years.
I carry a 50-to-30 amp adapter for use when the 30 amp outlet is so beat up the contacts are poor. But I've never run across a 50 amp box that didn't also have a 30.
-- Chuck - njloadExplorergbopp thanks for the quick reply.
- gboppExplorerYes you can. The adapters are available online and at many camping stores.
