30 Amp Power Cords - RV versus Marine?

Seems that someone has walked off with our 30AMP twist lock power cord for our Travel Trailer. They took that along with some other wire on the side of our house. I see Walmart has the black RV cord for 89.99 but they also have a Marine version (yellow cord) for 20. cheaper. Everything else seems the same on the package.
Is there a difference between RV (black) versus the Marine (Yellow) 30 Amp twist lock power cord?

  • Check the connectors on the end of the cord. A RV cord will have a Twist Loc connector on one end and a RV plug on the other. A marine cord will have a Twist Loc on each end. They must be running a special as I have never seen anything marine cheaper than RV.

If it was me, I would make sure it is No. 10 gage copper or eight gage aluminum. Then I would look at the strands. the more strands it has the more flexible it will be, and I would get the one with the most strands.
If they are both equal, I would get the marine grade one.

Just me and others might differ.

  • Look at the NEMA number on the cord. The rig should have it inside the receptacle. I have not seen any twist lock cords at my Walmart. They have different 30 amp standard extension cords.
You could verify configuration on the the Marinco website. I beleive the 30 amp are the same.
