3/4 ton diesel's and payload / GVWR issues
Looking at different 3/4 ton trucks and it seems like the 4x4 diesels payloads are going to range 2100 - 2400 ish. That's not much when it comes to covering myself for a possible 5th wheel upgrade do...

Almost nothing. GM and Ford are almost identical trucks, with the addition of an overload spring on the rear. That overload spring only comes into play with weight in the bed, so driving around town will feel the exact same. Ram uses coils on the 3/4 and springs on the 1 ton, so they will ride slightly different. You can also buy the Ram with factory air ride that rides much more gently than a regular HD pickup.
