In my decision last year I was debating over the ram 2500 vs 3500... I went with the 3500 simply because of the payload difference. I hear folks say there is no difference which simply not true. With the payload there is springs or cool changes. If you ever pull a 5th down the road I want the 3500..
Again, this depends on brand. With Ford, there are no springs or "cool changes." Same truck.
Yep, you can go buy the F350 springs after the fact or just get the $160 "camper package" in the F250 and you will have the exact same truck as an F350, but with an F250 badge on the side. Oh, and you will not have to buy the extra licence or pay more for registration. The only catch is that the payload is rated a lot lower (even though it is the same truck) because of class the F250s are in.
This is not an issue for just about everybody since most states don't even check or know how to check the payload of these trucks. In fact, there is no law stating you even have to keep the payload sticker on your truck. In many states, they will write you a ticket for not having a vehicle registered for over 10,000 lbs GVWR, and not for being over any weight that the manufacturer states your truck can haul. Many times if your truck looks safe and level without your butt dragging to the floor, and you have the correct registration or licence for the GVWR you're hauling then the police will not even bother you since they have much better things to do.
