4.10 rear in new Ford F350

A lot of leftovers have the 4.10 rear any one know if there would be a big difference in MPG towing or would it be negligible..?
  • 4.10’a are the way to go. Probably a bit better mileage towing.
  • Gas or diesel, single or dual? You do know that the top two gears are overdrive and many people are stuck in the distant past when discussing gear ratios?

Vs what? 4.10 towing is probably better mpg towing than 3.55/3.73
Go 4.30 if you see one.

Not a huge difference either way with the new transmissions with more gears with less space between shifts.
  • For doing truck things, I would always go with more gear.

In a 1 ton truck, the difference in mpg would be negligible. You may even gain mileage towing.
  • The heavier the right foot is, less MPG's you'll get. 4.10 gears are not noted to be MPG champs, but offer great pulling power and get you going better from a dead stop better as well. Personally, I'd prefer 3.73's, but truck was an off the lot purchase so it is what it is. previous truck had 3.55 gears and wasn't bad, but in hills the 4.10's shine. FWIW tho, running same speeds, only lost 1/2 mpg between the 2 and gained about 1,000 lbs in truck weight. IMO, a wash.
