4WD shifter stuck

Husband has a 04 Silverado 1500 4x4. The shifter for 4WD is on the floor. We used it Monday, after the snow. Haven't used it since then.
Today, husb went to put it in 4H to make it up a hill and the shifter won't move at all. He tried putting truck in N, then shifting, P then shift, tried driving and shifting. Nothing, firmly stuck in 2H.
thinking maybe a linkage but not sure. Asked Google but wasn't any help.
ideas anyone?
THANKS!!!

GM trucks don't have hubs on the front wheels, and haven't since the 1988 redesign when they switch to the Central Axle Disconnect system along with IFS. The axles (CV Shafts) are always connected to the wheels.
  • Every 4X4 I owned that had the shiftier for the transfer case on the floor all had issues with the linkage freezing. I would drive to the quarter car wash spray hot soapy water all over the linkage and it would work fine.

Now I plowed with my trucks and attributed that to the snow and slush getting packed around the linkage. If the transfer case it's self is sticking it time to change the fluid and go with trans fluid. All of my Ramchargers were changed over from gear lube to trans fluid as recommend by Chrysler. Check with a GM/Chevy dealer to find out what fluid they recommend.

    Standard?

If so, low gear, slip clutch just a little with wheels straight, then press clutch so all tension is off drivetrain and push the lever.

If not, try same thing in reverse.

Works best if you are on a hill and geared to move up the hill (backing up hill in reverse, etc).

    Automatic :(

:) Hi, and this is the answer I was going to give you. Once the wheel gets off of the ground, you can see it un-wind.

  • Before he tried to put it in 4WD he had already backed out of the garage about that far, drove about 10 ft then tried to move the shifter to 4H.
