In answer to some of your questions: Before I initially took in the truck, I noticed it was puking out coolant from the filler cap of the coolant resivoir. There was staining all over the resivoir bottle and white staining around the cap. The inside of the resivoir bottle had a black, oily looking film on the inside. The resivoir was never completely drained, but each time I added coolant and distilled water 50/50, I had to add about 1 1/2 gallon of the mix to bring it up to normal. At my next stop, maybe 150 miles later, I noticed it had puked again, so off to the dealer I went. I initially replaced the coolant cap with a new one just in case it was something simple like the cap. The dealer I had purchased the cap from told me if it continues to puke, go see a mechanic, it could be something more serious (boy was he right).
Anyway, I am starting my homework now in case the dealer tries to jerk me around. I just have a really hard time believing an egr cooler and a head gasket both could have gone out. With all the driving I've done, towing an 18000 pound 5th wheel with no white smoke, no warning on the gauges (gauges all showed normal the whole time). No warning lights coming on. Nothing to indicate any problems. I had the oil changed about two weeks before I started my trip home, because it was due. Nothing said about any milky substance in the oil at that Ford garage. I checked the oil level on the dip stick the day before I left and all I noticed was black oil.
