6.4L Hemi empty hwy mpg - UPDATED w/VIDEO

My 2014 Ram 6.4L 2500 Longhorn is surprising me with the good mileage it is getting.

Towing a Sunnybrook 279RB. 8500lbs. glass sided. 10.6 MPG
Empty 17.1MPG

27,500 miles on vehicle.

This one is a keeper.

Nope. But keep in mind that the 6 speed transmission will be "learning" for the first 1000 Km or so, so things will change. Don't know if your sound is related to the transmission or not, but mine feels different to drive now than it did when I first got it.

Somewhat related...Took DW's 05 Dodge Magnum up to Chicago this week. Straight shot up I-65 and back. 2005 was the first year for the 5.7 hemi with MDS. Cruising 75-80 on the highway (except for the 55 zones) yielded a pretty consistent 22.5 mpg, so not surprised at IB's results with that heavy 2500 truck.

112K on the motor now and NO problems. IB's truck is now at the top of my list when it's time to retire the burb.

How about a video there smart guy? Or do you think I altered it with some fancy editing? :) You can see the mpg I got if you're able to do the metric conversion, and I have the 4.10 axle. It works out to 10.7 US mpg in case math isn't your strong suit.

Don't you think it a bit unusual for a truck to get 10.7 mpg when pulling a 37' 5er, but only 11.5 mpg when running empty?

In later tests where I had some wind and hills to deal with, I got just over 8 mpg pulling (not on the video). I'm perfectly happy with that.

I don't know where/how TL got their empty mpg figures since I haven't read the article, but mine is getting better than 11.5 empty, even with a mix of city & hwy on every tank. I am averaging 13 mpg in mixed driving, and 15 - 16 mpg open highway when at 70 mph with some wind. In ideal conditions (no wind and 60 mph), it will get 18 - 19 mpg on the open highway, I know, I've done it.

I'm not posting this in hopes that it will change your mind that everything RAM/Chrysler is the worst POS built, because I know that isn't going to happen. Your hatred for RAM is well known and you reaffirm that with every post. Likely because GM is losing market share every month to RAM.

Too bad I no longer subscribe to TL, because I'd like to read the article.

No worries there....he hates all things UN-Chevy. My Tundra "wet noodle" frame still has not snapped in half...but I vow to post pics when it does.

No, for some reason the 2500s do not have a light to tell you when you are in 4 cyl mode like the 1500s do. It is pretty easy to tell by "feel" and sound though.

I may be new to the site, and my expectations, but if I can get around 22l per 100k as it looks like in your video I will be pleased. I have a 7000 dry camper and I don't think my 1500 5.7 got much better than that!

Lot of variables in any test. Location, temperature, ect. My 3500 srw 6.4 with 3.73's on the highway, cruse set for 68, will hit 17 mpg. Around town drops to 14's, add the landscape trailer and mowers, 11's. Now my mowing route is hilly secondary rds, and clients are fairly close together. Truck rarely get out of 4th before im stopping for the next lawn.
