6.6L Duramax-Lift Pump Suggestions

Hello
I recently got a 07 Sierra 2500 classic with 140K on the LBZ (pre DEF) engine and have encountered low rail pressure code P0087. After reading about the various sources of this problem I have read and heard that many install lift pumps for long term durability of the fuel system and to eliminate the code. For anyone that has had that code or contemplated/installed a lift pump which model/design you went with? Did you modify the tank inlet/pick up? Encountered any pump failures?

Thanks
  • Thanks everyone what I thought was obvious and already done I shouldn't assume. I will start with the fuel filter and go on from there. On Youtube they show removing the inner fenderwell to access the filter is there any other way?
  • My parents LLY had a similar issue. truck ran like crap. when they had the fuel filter replaced, it was not tightened enough and was sucking air around the seal.

If you just got it, do you know when the fuel filter was last replaced. if you do not, replace it anyways. this could resolve the issue.

True. First place to start with fuel issues is replace filter.
  • Never a bad idea to add a lift pump with the additional filtration.

You can pretty much flip a coin. Either FASS or Air Dog 150s are the most popular.

  • Your HPFP should be able to function well without a LP unless you'v eincreased HP.
I would fix what ever is wrong first and then install an aftermarket LP of longevity.
BTW, any time you have a fuel issue it's best to start by swapping the fuel filter even if has been recently replaced.
  • I never did understand why they didn't use a lift pump. That is a lot to ask for from the CP.3 HPFP. I know some 2nd genny Rams had lots of issues from a lift pump.
