6.7 Fuel Mileage

First let me kindly say this. I respectfully don't care what Ram guys or GM guys are getting for fuel mileage. I don't have that truck so it does not pertain to me. They are great trucks but I don't own one so let's keep this thread on topic.

I have my second 6.7L Ford. The old 2011 F450 is long gone but I recently bought a 2015 SRW F350 with the 3.55 rear end. The old F450 had the 4.30 rear end and the power was slightly less than what Ford's doing now. Plus, we had a much bigger camper back then. I could expect with the F450 around 15 mpg at around 60 mph empty and an average of 8 mpg towing the Cyclone.

When I brought the new truck home from the dealership a few weeks ago, I noticed a huge improvement in the fuel mpg meter on the dash. I know they're not perfect but they are somewhat close. I was squeezing close to 20 mpg with the cruise set on 70 mph. This was the very first drive of the truck.

But now with about 700 miles, we took the Work & Play for a weekend trip to Carowinds and I was quite pleased with what I've seen so far. I set the cruise on 66-67 mph and tried to keep it there the entire trip. The gauge on the dash hovered around 12 mpg. I will be filling it up soon and I'll have a more exact measurement of my fuel economy by hand calculating. But I can get around 34 gallons to the tank full and right now, I'm sitting on around 380 miles with this present tank. Once I get to the fuel station, I expect at least somewhere in the mid 11 mpg range.

In all honesty, for a Ford, I think that's pretty darned good. My 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L, and the prior 6.7L never got close to that pulling a camper.

I plan to hit the scales soon but I estimate the Work & Play close to 9000 lbs. for this past trip. Add the truck, fuel, and people and we're probably pushing around 17,500 lbs. GCW.

For the other 6.7 Ford folks, what numbers are you seeing? I can only expect this to slightly improve as time goes on.
