I'm glad for the OP. Yes, from '03-'10 Ford diesels have a very checkered service record. The CP4 pump in the 6.7L Scorpion had some issues as well. However it seems since the '12 model year Ford has things ironed out pretty well.
As for putting a CAT engine in a pickup....Not gonna happen. CAT got out of the on-road engine business and to my knowledge has no intention of returning. I have several friends that are CAT engineers and they told me a variety of market factors played into the decision and that a return is very unlikely.
