A lot of the internal engine problems with the last three Ford diesels have in many ways involved some part of the emissions system, whether EGR, cooling, sensors, DPF/SCR, etc. I'm quite sure my limited usage of a diesel truck would surely lead to clogging and related problems.

I think that's true of all 3 of the big diesels, not just Ford. They really want to be worked to keep the emissions system clean and "healthy". I wouldn't want to idle around in one for long.
