2014 F450, 97000 miles. At 88000, the High Pressure Fuel Pump went out. $10K dollar repair that Ford or their extended warranty wouldn't cover. The only reason I purchased the extended warranty was I knew there were issues with Ford's fuel system. They will tell you it was water in the fuel, but you will never get a WIF light and their filters clearly don't remove the water. Really has made me wonder if I'll get another one.
Sorry to hear of the trouble with your truck. This problem is a major factor why I did not purchase a 6.7L Super Duty, along with the complexity of the engine. Some will say the HPFP failures are not common but I have heard of enough of them to know that the problem is very real and is still occurring in relatively new trucks. GM did not discontinue using the Bosch CP4 pump because it was reliable! I plan on keeping my truck for a very long time so out of warranty repair costs was a major factor in my decision.
The Ford also did not have a very good exhaust brake at the time I was shopping which was another very important factor for me because we tow quite heavy through mountain passes out here on the West coast.
This sums it up for me also. Understand, I absolutely love Ford trucks! I think they are easily the best looking truck on the road and the 2017 is second to none right now. But for the life of me I just can't trust that engine and the complexity involved with it. I want a new Super Duty so bad I can taste it. But if I ever pulled that trigger it would have the bulletproof 6.2 and 4:30 rear end.
