No, have not looked at the list and I don't intend to. I believe this will be a short term problem that will get resolved, one way or the other, in a hurry.
It's been six months, can't hold my breath much longer.
Well then go change your oil!
Oil discussions are always entertaining. The things that make a person think some new model of vehicle has an engine made of unobtainum and that it will blow up unless some very specific, expensive lube is used I'll never understand.
Go buy 3-4 jugs of 15-40 in whatever color jug is your favorite and an oil filter and don't sweat the small stuff.
I would think that folks would come on a forum to get a clue about things, I was wrong. If you can't avail yourself of the simple information and links mentioned in this thread, why even come here and post uninformed and useless information? :h
My posts May be useless info to you, but maybe not everyone. I'm not interested in the links or why "only" a certain oil can be used in the new Power stroke.
If by "informed" you mean believing everything you read on the internet then yes I'm uninformed.
No one know what someone else's experience, training or knowledge base is from a few posts on a forum, but if you're a betting man then I'd bet you a new diesel pickup that the OP, or anyone, could change their oil with any of the commercially available oils appropriate for the purpose in general and move merrily on their way with their engine living a long and happy life.
Realize when you read a "mandate" that the primary motivator for that may not always be the one you think to be most obvious. Those mandates may be political, economical or environmental and have no real bearing on the service life of the engine......or they might.
I'd guess the largest discrepancy in opinions on this site and others, although I see it far more frequently on here, is 1. Age. Retired folks hav more time to overanalyze things to give themselves something constructive to do and to "protect" their opionion or investment.
2. We are dealing with things mechanical and it can be seen who has a grasp/experience in that realm and who may be getting into something totally new that they've had no exposure to in the many years prior.
3. Relates to number 1. I and many others, deal with multiple persons, entities, regulations, opinions, facts, fictions, laws, contracts, specifications, wants and needs daily. What oil to put in my truck never really makes the list. I've run fleets and they all get the same oil. From new Powerstrokes to 300T cranes to 300kW gen set.
Just adding my experience.
Just like you, based on your experience or research, you reccomend something different.
For me, I would have dumped the oil, poured in more of whatever was on sale at Pep Boyz and checked that off my to do list for the day.
Cheers!
My links are information from Ford Motor Company, you know, the folks that built the truck. But what do they know??! :h
