6.7L Cummins intake tube

I got the modding fever again and deciding the stock intake tube with its silencer is keeping me from some power and from hearing my turbos sing. I thought that I would just take the silencer out(which takes 5 minutes to do), but after doing some research I found out that it serves a dual purpose to direct airflow turbulence caused by the convoluted elbow right before the silencer tube and the silencer itself. This means I will want to replace the intake tube from the convoluted elbow down to the turbo inlet tube if I want to take silencer out.

I do not want a whole intake kit because I think it is just a waste of money, but I do want to replace this tube to take the restrictive parts out of the stock intake and to make some sweet turbo music that is not too loud. The only ones that I have seen so far that makes this tube is either K&N and Airaid. With the K&N you have to by their oiled filter as well (which I don't want) and is $220, but the Airaid offers just the tube itself for $150. Does anybody know of anyone else that sells just that intake tube from the filter box and sensors down to the turbo inlet pipe?

You know that being able to hear the turbo adds 25hp.

Actually no, that is not how a diesel engine operates.

  • I did check TDR out already, but most of those guys are getting complete intake systems instead of just the tube. I don't believe the filter housing itself is restrictive, and it is mainly this tube due to the silencer. I think I am just going to get the $140 Airaid tube. That is cheap enough and it does what I am looking to do. Thanks for your input thoughs.

BTW, for those that do not know what silencer I am talking about and have a 6.7L Cummins then the video link below that I found on YouTube will show the removal. The late 5.9L trucks had them as well, but it was a part of the intake tube and had to be cut out unlike the removable one on the 6.7L.
