60 mph is just fine.

Not saying at all that I'm the perfect driver, but do feel like posted max is there for a reason. Seems like if the posted is 55, folks think that really means 60....65 really means 75. Just seems like having a radar is more like a way to go above the posted speed and lessen the chances of getting caught. I try to stay within whatever the speed for that area is. You betcha there are times I find my foot has gotten heavier, but most of the time I use cruise set at the posted speed. That said, if the posted speed is 60 and virtually all of the traffic in both lanes is at 72 or whatever, I generally try to blend in. Too slow is about as bad as too fast, IMHO.

Well said. I have a radar detector and I appreciate that it gives me the heads up when the police are around and are on the hunt. I am not going to lie and say that I don't exceed the speed limit from time to time, but I drive what the road will allow and at the speed at which I am comfortable - sometimes that is actually slower than the speed limit.

60 mph here too. Nice and relaxing, not to mention safer. Can even get glimpses of scenery without worrying about going off the road. It took a while to get used to towing at that speed at first. Now I just put it in C/C and let everyone pass and no longer stress about it. On single lane stretches, if cars pile up enough, I'll pull over. One thing I've learned is that it doesn't matter what speed you tow at, a lot of drivers *think* you are going too slow and that they have to pass, and they do. So let them, fine by me....

We camp a lot in Wa. where the limit is 70 and 60 for trucks on highways and freeways. Nobody ever gets bothered if you are only doing 60.

And our ST tires are gonna last forever!

Completely agree with this thread and speed.....except for the radar part. Is this like getting a free pass to go faster than the posted max?? Or give you a heads-up that a Bear is gonna stop you if you don't slow down? Don't have a radar, don't need a radar. IF I'm going over the posted speed and I get stopped and ticketed, it's my own fault.

Drivers who are "perfect" and never make human mistakes or demonstrate momentary lapes of attention while driving probably will not find the radar necessary. For the rest of us RVers who are less than "perfect drivers" at all times, the radar is just an alarm device to assist a driver to drive safer. One speeding ticket will pay for one good radar device, keep your insurance rates lower and help you avoid going to driver school and keep points off your drivers license. But, this is america and everyone gets make their own choices:):):)

Why do folks think that the posted max speed is just a suggestion?

We went out west this summer, 7500+ miles and the sweet spot for our rig is 58 mph. We averaged 10+ mpg and that included towing thru the Rockies. Sit back and enjoy your vacations.

This was my first time ever in California and I found that strange. I stuck with my cruising speed and had no issues.

Try Oregon there it is 65 max on any highway some highways it is less.

You did not tell us what your cruising speed was.

If you are in California on a Sunday morning when traffic is light I suggest you stay within the speed limit.

During heavy traffic you are most likely safe.
