IF no cure from the Cps, from your description, it sounds like there maybe a loose wiring connection under one of the valve covers. It is pretty common in high mileage 7.3 Fords. Sounds like it is trying to fire on one side. Remove the valve covers and you probably will find one side of the wiring harness not making contact. It can be repaired with a wedge cut from a coin if you don't want to replace it. If the truck is hot and running when it happens it will sometimes continue to run on four cylinders but wont start once cold. If this is the problem, better do the other side while you are at it.
