With that kind of logic and diagnostic capability you'll never get through with any suggestions. At this point just smile, wave, and wish him luck.
Oh, while you're at it, go buy some popcorn kernel and butter. Strike up a nice camp fire and pop the corn in your dutch oven. You might want to get the bargain size because you'll need a lot for this show.
