- ShinerBockExplorerThis would be a tough one. In stock form or with mild tuning, I would have to say the 6.7L. Modified I would have to say the a 99-00 7.3L. Most of what was added to the 6.7L like VGT, common rail, and so on was for emissions. A modified 7.3L can easily make a reliable 500 at the wheels with an S400 and a few other goodies.
If we are talking all modified PSD's then I would go with a bulletproofed 6.0L, but that is not one of the choices here. - blofgrenExplorerThe very high resale value of 7.3L trucks speaks volumes (and remain very high even though the 6.7L has been out for 8 years......) ;)
- Dave_H_MExplorer IIpurely apples and oranges to me :h
- downtheroadExplorerHave to go with the 6.7.
But if you want to talk about which is better.....the 7.3 or the the 6.0, that would be easy. - notevenExplorer III3800 Cummins dealers on Turtle Island....
Oops wrong thread... - colliehaulerExplorer IIII currently still own two 7.3 Diesels, NO WAY would I compare them to a modern 6.7 Diesel. My 7.3's have been well maintained and I couldn't afford to have a new 6.7 Excursion custom built. It would be so nice to have the quiet and all the extra power. I will say my 7.3's have been as reliable as a anvil.
Forgot to add the 7.3 truck with manual transmission gets 21mpg highway, not to bad for a 3/4 ton truck. - Bionic_ManExplorerSorry, but I don't think there is any comparison.
The 6.7 is a better engine and a better total package.
I can't imagine a circumstance where I would be buying a 7.3 (or a 5.9 for that matter) in current times. - mtofell1ExplorerThis article almost seems like a troll on Ford... driving home how large a gap there has been between good diesel engines.
- dieseltruckdrivExplorer II7.3 in a heartbeat for me. Of course it could be because it has been paid for for years. It is noisy, but not as bad as my 95 7.3 was. It rides better than my 95, but it isn't a great ride.
I hate making payments that large, so I deal with my 7.3 and know that any problems will be minor. - blofgrenExplorer

Even though its outdated, slow, and noisey by today's standards, that engine is legendary and still has a devoted folowing. I can't imagine Ford would have a problem selling a brand new 7.3 equipped truck.
x2. Definitely 7.3L for me; an entire 7.3L engine replacement is likely about the same amount as dealing with the mess from a CP4 pump grenade fiasco! :B
