7 pin connector

2017 F250, the center pin of the 7 way has no power. I know it usually only activates when in reverse but still no power. Any ideas?

number 27 in the power distribution box is for the hot wire in the connector ... the one oclock position on the truck end. The centre pin is for reverse.

There is a trailer tow smart "module" that has to sense the trailer (electrical) load before any power is sent.

Are you checking it with a meter or a incandescent test light? On my Silverado, the center pin will not "energize" until it sees a resistance.

  • +1 on the fuses. I know that Ford have separate fuses for the trailer plug for the tail, turn signals, brake lights. Its quite likely that the backup lights are as well. On our old Windstar and the E450, they were in a different location and box (maybe under the hood) from the regular vehicle lights.

  • The only thing you can do is get under it and pull it apart and see if Ford hooked up the BU wire to it. I just did this the other day on my Dmax because I wanted to hook up a BU camera to it. Mine was hooked up from the factory. In a half an hour my BU camera was working great. Good luck.
