7 way plug on Ford SD

Have others had issues with a trailer cord not making good contact w/ the truck plus being it's a sideways plug in rather up/down (raised portion of trailer cord's position), thus causing to lose trailer lights? I had no problem last winter w/ my snowmobile trailer, but seems that this year it doesn't want to work like it should unless I wrap a micro/mini bungee cord around cap and cord. Never had a problem w/ my old '03 as that plug in was up/down.

My 2010 F150 Ford Truck has this trailer connector setup for the 7-way and the 4-way receptacle...

When you open the spring loaded lid for the 7-way connector you can see the tab that is suppose to sit down into the trailer plug.

    (Both photos from google search)

I agree my 2010 setup does not hold it as tight as my older F150 did but it works fine for me... I always make sure the tab in the bottom photo has engaged the trailer connector plug...

  • Not sure what you mean by up/down and sideways. The spring loaded cover with the catch tab to grab the cord connector holds mine in tight with no need for a bungee.
  • If it is same as older sockets in Ford module is replaceable without touching the wiring. Pop old module out and new one in. Etrailer sells the module. I had to replace the one in my 08 Ford when it was less than a year oldm
