Well, you have to admit it doesn't have a boatload of miles on it for a 38 year old truck. Looks like he got all the good out of it though. :)
I think he's had it for 38 years, bought it when it was already 20 years old.
Very impressive! - dodge_guyExplorer IIIt didn`t last 38 years, because it should have been off the road decades ago! that truck is an accident waiting to happen! no way that thing can be safe for road use. I`ve seen cars that people don`t take care of. I`ve refused to work on cars better than that need to go to the junkyard!
This is not a story to brag about, instead the owner should be ashamed and the truck should not be allowed to be licensed!
That`s the Dodge Guy in me...........now the car guy in me repeats all the above!!!!:M - mich800Explorer

From the looks of truck........not surprised.
He doesn't seem to be much of a 'take care of equipment' kind of guy.
I think it is great trying to keep something running if it is practical. Looks like this is just his get to work vehicle. But I am curious what is included in this alleged "total repair" bill. For over 300k miles I would think tires and oil alone would eclipse this figure. Other then that not sure it looks like he put much else into it to keep it running. - turbojimmyExplorer

I read that as a single repair bill hasn't gotten above $1,000. I would think the other interpretation is baloney. That's $26/year. - crcrExplorerone word ... beater

^ that's what I'm talkin' about!! LOL!
Seriusoly, I'm torn about this story - it's a nice "feel good" kinda deal that the good ole boy kept 'er going......
But then there's the "it's a rolling wreck and nothing to be proud of" side that see's a guy who neglected to fix much of anything correctly because it's a beater and he could get away with it....He could have driven it without a radiator / coolant, since it wouldn't even heat up on his 1.5 mile trip across the little farm town to the feed mill job...big deal! I've had many beaters that would have still be on the road today under that kinda use, but could not have let them get that bad or I would have been given an inspection / safety ticket driving in more "average" circumstances. - DaveF-250SDExplorerI took it to mean that no single repair has been more than $1,000. That figure would cover an oil change a year for 38 years, but not tires, clutch replacement, brake shoes, etc. Too bad he is in the rust belt, in California his truck would still be rust free.
- valhalla360NavigatorI'm calling bull on the maintenance cost also.
A set of tires is going to run $4-500. Assuming a new set every 10yrs (even if they don't wear out they will rot away after long enough), that is already $1600-2000. - old_guyExploreryou have to take old biscuit as is, but it does look like the $75 was for buying the duct tape for the seat. LOL some one will pay this guy a lot of money for that truck some day.

A guy like that never bought a set of new tires. He may be running take-off ST tires from people on here.
