$99 buck oil change

Last time I changed the oil on my Subaru Wagon, it cost me twice as much as the oil change place charges. I guess it's the satisfaction of getting oil on my hands and squirming around under a 3000# machine held up some some plastic blocks and a few pieces of Chinese steel?

After a dealership service changed for service not done I change my oil in my vehicles.

The cheap oil changes are 100% bait to get you in there. Sure there may be a few dealers here n there that don't try to up sell, but they certainly do up charge for anything beyond the basic oil change.

I don't frequent dealers. The POS dealer we bought our new SRT from wouldn't even cough up a farking t shirt,hat or free oil change, but he sure tried to sell me 5 different warranties like 10 times before we got him on track to do the title and registration!

Took my company truck to the Chebbie dealer for a complete service. Oil, trans, t case and axles. Oil change was like $65, great deal. The rest was like $700 before the $100 off "you spent too much" discount! Eash axle and t case was about $100 ea for a drain and fill of a couple quarts each and the trans was $300.

Our primary driver is electric. So no oil, filters, plugs, hoses, belts etc and probably never any brakes due to regeneration. And yet our dealer for the last three years still sends us coupons for oil changes, 40 point checks etc. Too funny. Tried to get some free washer fluid from them once instead of half off an oil change. No luck. Lol. :).

Not too sure how service departments are going to be doing in 10 years. Might be some adjusting to the business plan there. :).

I kinda miss the free muffins while you wait for the oil change. There’s always a down side. :)

Your experience may vary, but I don't trust them to work on my truck. Around here, Ford dealers run lube shops that compete with the Jiffy Lubes and the like. They will use whatever oil and filters are the least expensive. You cannot trust them to use genuine Motorcraft anything. The employees were either working at Jiffy last week, or will be next week. I don't think that is a Ford only practice either.

I have a special storage receptacle for those coupons.

Probably shocks, plugs, air cleaner, maybe even ball joints.

Service not sales is the dealer's bread and butter income. They all do it. We have a Camry we bought in April. We took the car in for the first complementary 'Toyota Care' (not much of anything really, but baked into the car's price I'm sure) and the service writer asks if there's anything else??? The car is brand new for cryin' out loud, and on Toyota's dime if there was 'something else'. :E

Hmmm. My 2018 Chevy D/A came with 2 free oil changes, tire rotation and multi point inspections Dealer I bought from added an additional 2 years.

The catch is that the OLM must be down to 20% or one full year.

My dealer will often take expired coupons for stuff like oil changes. I just go in person to drop off the vehicle, and ask nicely. And, am ready to pay full price just in case they say no, but I don't think they've ever said no. The coupon is usually $10 off, so $40 instead of $50 including tire rotation.

My wife bought a used ford about 2 years ago and they gave her 4 free oil changes. I took it in every time and they only suggested air cleaner this last time, nothing the first 3 times. I asked what a safety check and oil change cost and I think they said $35 or $40 with tire rotation. Some dealers are still trying to keep customers, they aren't all bad.

“No thanks” as a response still works.
