A Fond Farewell

To the Truck Camper forum anyhow...
Just a quick thanks to all on this forum for much info gained, I hope I have contributed my fair share as well.
Thanks for the info and comedy, I will miss the "Weight Police"
and for that reason I may stick my head in from time to time.
I hate to sell the Beast, but at this time with my teenage daughter dragging a friend or two it was just getting too small, (I know a nearly 12' camper too small?)

We broke down and bought a new Puma 295 5th wheel with rear bunkhouse and outdoor kitchen, took our first trip this summer.
Eastern sierra, Mt. Shasta, Oregon, southern WA, Idaho, Montana, Yellowstone, Utah, and back to Vegas.
3100 miles 10 days seven states, and over 200 truck campers counted through out the trip.

    I do.... always. I only go the backenest backward roads no one wants to travel cause it takes too long.

    Man what enjoyable trips too. I've seen a lot of great places that way.

    Enjoy your new toy. In time, when my knee's tell me I'll probably be joining you on the 5 side. Hopefully, many more years down the trail. Good Luck.

    60 mph is a comfortable speed for me whether towing or not. I'm not retired and do have time commitments, but my vacation time will never be a rat race hurried pace.

    I'm surprised I don't see more "bunkhouses" being pulled behind a TC to give the kids and adults some separation. We love the expanse and amenities of the some of the large trailers and fifth wheels, but it would limit us too much where we want to travel. That's why we're working toward a mega TC in the future...

    Best of luck to you. I understand the need for extra room. I too will be looking at 5th wheels or a C or small A class after having both grandkids and dear wife. Was going to bring our dog too. Just found out that we have 2 more grandkids coming too! I have a Lance 990 11' 3 " model and felt cramped. I will keep the TC for my trips for myself but it is time for more room!!

    What's wrong with 55? It's safer, gets better gas mileage and it the speed limit on many roads that RVs travel on back roads.

    There's no need for excess speed while towing thousands of pounds. we'll make sure to stay out of your way. I can't imagine doing 80 while towing.

    As to the OP: enjoy your 5er. It is nice to have more room.

    I don't know about you but 55 is what I drive everywhere. Still manage to see the same guy that passed me hrs before flying low. Can't imagine how they can enjoy the scenery etc driving 75 mph and more. Just my opinion.

    You haven't driven on I5 in the Central Valley then. It's 2 lanes - one lane (left) is the fast lane, the other is the slow lane because all the trucks are in it.

    Until you get one behind two trucks, one doing 57 in the left lane, and the other doing 53 right lane. Trying to get a hole to pass the truck doing 45 uphill on I5 can be outright dangerous at times.

    Me, I prefer 65. It's the sweet spot for fuel, power, and noise...

    Yep it's a California thing, no problems in WA, OR, ID, MT, or UT, in fact they let you go 80 while towing in Utah, just have to stay out of the left lane. 80 with the trailer was a bit much for my wife, I kept it to 75...never understood why I was OK towing at 70 in NV then crossed the magic invisible line and now I'm somehow safer going 20 MPH slower than all the other traffic. That's part of the reason why I'm no longer in the 805, and even with the TC towing my boat I had to follow the stupid 55 while towing law, so it's nothing new. :)


    Idaho just switched to 80, but not for this fifth wheel towing person.
