A frames in a Walmart lot ?

when you are set up somewhere besides an RV park.... like in a walmart parking lot ? do people come over to you and knock on the door to ask about your little Aliner or Chalet ?

these little trailers are so different ...i envision that most people are curious about them and they attract attention.
is that about right ?

if so... that kind of makes me a little nervous about dry camping
in a walmart lot if i am traveling from one place to another.
i'll be on the road alone

  • We have overnighted in several Walmarts over the last few years. Arrive in the evening and leave fairly early.

Opening the a-frame is not setting up camp. Putting out chairs, etc., is.

The only time we have been approached in a parking lot was at a Costco when we stopped for fuel, shopping and lunch.
  • I don't do Wall Mart overnights ... ever... but I've also never heard of anyone doing an overnight in any kind of pop-up type camper either at Wall Marts, not even in a hi-lo, and never an A-liner. The goal with Wall Mart camping is to make it look like you are NOT camping. If you set up, you will get attention.

If you have any kind of camper that requires a set-up, I strongly suggest to work it in your plans to stay at KOA's for overnight hops.

Now, there may be some places where you can set up, depending upon your association. For example, American Legion parking lots, Church parking lots, Elks clubs, organizations like that. In that case, you'd be free to do so. But you'll need to work out an arrangement with them first. But Wall Marts ... nah!
