A new 6.6L engine with 400hp and 450lbft of torque is coming for 3/4 ton through medium duty GM trucks. It will have all of the new fuel saving tech and seems to emphasize torque over horsepower. Here's the link, hope it comes out OK. Says the new gas engine will be used in 2020 3/4 / 1 ton PU's and MDT like new Chevy and IH MDT lines. Well, 2020 will seem like an eternity for me. My truck is starting to nickel and dime me and I am thinking about buying a new truck. Was only interested in a new Ram 3500/4500; however, for the first time in 20 years, I am thinking about going back to a gas truck. Ford's 7.3 gas, Ram's 7.0 gas, and now GM's 6.6 gas. Could be the best time to go back. I just hope they don't gouge customers on the prices.

I would be shocked to see a SB in a medium duty truck. Just not enough duty cycle. You need big iron to reject all of that heat and not twist up like a rubber band!

You don’t want to be first year owner of any these engines even if they are a derivative of proven older designs. You may be better off with the last run of the older engine if you cannot wait that long.

Yeah your probably right. For some reason I thought GM put the original 6.0 with cast iron heads in their medium duty trucks.

Ford V10 is going away. New design pushrod V8 on the way to replace it. This will be a 7.3. There is also a 7.0 OHC V8 coming for the pickups.

It's about time GM. The 6.0L is way behind on power, and with the rumors about Ford and Ram coming out withe even more powerful options GM needs to step it up.
