A sight we rarely see in this area....

Sure people have truck campers in western NY, but they are few and far between. Lo and behold, today I saw an Artic Fox TC - something we never see in this area and it was for sale. I am tempted to stop and see how it ended up in this area. Northwood makes a great unit, I just wish they had dealerships east of Wisconsin.

  • I grew up in Buffalo--in the 1960's, my Uncle Nick had a pickup camper. I guess he is my inspiration and example for RV'ing. Most of the family ventured no further than Orchard Park, or an exotic road trip to the Adirondacks, Erie, or even (gasp) Cleveland!

I fondly recall seeing slide shows of Uncle Nick and Aunt Junes' adventures from Florida, to Winnemuca and Needles, and stories of the AlCan Highway on the way to Alaska.
  • Have been to truck camper warehouse,no sales tax I believe in new Hampshire. They carry Chalet also popular.
  • It's a sight you will very rarely see east of the Mississippi. Very UNpopular in this side if the Mississippi and an extremely low volume seller at virtually all dealers handling them in the on the east side. You'd be real lucky to see one a month in Michigan and there's a dealer here and Michigan is a state where there are a high volume of TC's owned and used. Most of what you do see have "out of state" license plates almost always from the western states.

Note that the OP said the rarely seen AF TC was for sale!
  • Truck camper warehouse in New Hampshire usually has several on the lot as well as other brands.Has a lot in Long Island NY as well
  • Arctic Fox TC'a are also a very rare sight almost like hen's teeth in Michigan. There's here's a very large RV dealer less than 50 miles from us that sells Lance, Travelite, and Arctic Fox. According to the salesman we'd talk to there, the Arctic Fox line doesn't sell well at all there and they may be dropping the line as carrying the inventory is an expensive financial burden. Not knocking Arctic Fox TC's but facts are facts and who would know better than the dealer who sells them or wishes they could?

We are lucky to even see one AF TC a month in our lakeshore community which has 11 local CG's and tons of TC's around town in summer and fall. Most of the Arctic Fox TC's we've seen have "out of state" license plates and virtually all are from western states. What catches your eye real quick is the delamination bubbles on the sides of most of the AF's we've seen. It's joked about often.

One forum member who posts on here we know from up in Petoskey, MI (near the Straits) has an Arctic Fox and we've seen and talked to him while camping in a CG in the U.P.
  • Twing:

Northwood does have a dealer in New Hampshire (West Chesterfield, NH: Truck Camper Warehouse)...a very large Northwood dealer.
  • Scarce in this part of NY also. Interesting name, our twins of 89 will be 25 this Sat. I see a lot out in Montauk, their popular with the fisherman, Across the street from my sister's house a popular surfing beach, Ditch Plains, I've been seeing more and more surfers using TC's in the past few years.
  • They are pretty rare in our area also. We've seen a few parked at stores but only twice in a local campground in the last five years. Maybe they're all camping in remote spots instead of the campground.
