Compilation of federal regulations for all trailers, commercial and noncommercial.
Includes a height limitation for rear brake and tail lights of 72 inches max above ground.
72 inch limitation is for all 50 states, not just Texas.
Don't do it.
The link I gave is from the etrailer web site. The info is pertaining to trailers only. All trailers recreational, utility, commercial, etc, and not cars and trucks. It is worth looking at. It would not be good to have to patch holes in a trailer because the state inspector rejected owner added brake or tail lights located too high or in the wrong place. Not trying to be the tail light police but these are federal regulations the manufacturers have to follow and are written into the state safety inspection laws. However, do as you wish, it is only the law.
From the etrailer web site:
”Note: The information contained in this article is based on the US government's regulations pertaining to vehicle trailer lighting. These regulations can be found under Title 49, Part 571, Section 108 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This section covers lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment related to motor vehicles. To see these regulations and to get the most up-to-date information, visit the US government's Electronic Code of Federal Regulations."
